Members and guests were invited to discuss the topical issue of European monetary stability with Günter Grosche. Dr Grosche is a former member of the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and was decisively involved in the process creating the Euro as the single currency in Europe. In 1991, he was a member of the German delegation negotiating the Maastricht Treaty providing the legal foundation of the new currency. From 1993 to 1998, Dr Grosche acted as Secretary of the European Union’s (EU) Monetary Committee and from 1998 to 2004 he was the Secretary of the EU’s Economic and Financial Committee as well as of the Economic Policy Committee. In 2005, Günter Grosche was appointed special advisor to the President of the Euro-Group and Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Jean-Claude Juncker.
